Overview

This eco coloring book with Super Heroes teaches kids the basic concepts of ecology with suggested readings that qualify them for Green Girl's Eco Club. It's alot of learning wrapped up in an adventure story with concerned kids lost in the rainforest searching for Green Girl's camp. The best part is the last page which offers free passwords to Remember the Rainforest, an eco education website based on the brave explorers of the 1800s. There you will find thousands of downloadable images, the rare and beautiful drawings of the explorers, the journals of the expedition, the words of Karl von Martius (the Father of Ecology)...perfect for bulletin boards and reports. Kids can download and print worksheets from the Lessons section to take to school. Your child can become an instant Eco SuperHero by sharing with classmates !
Report from the Rainforest is great present for Earth Day. The lucky recipients of this eco coloring book can play Eco Club at home with their friends, download pictures and color, and study the rainforest etchings which describe the explorers' landmarks. Don't be surprised if the adults in your family feel the urge to color, too !

About the Author

I am a poet and graphic artist. I fell in love with Brazil when I met my husband, Alberto. On my first trip to Brazil, an old man approached me in the street and asked "Have you come to Brazil to receive the spirits"? Little did I know that I would receive the spirits of Carmen Miranda and Karl von Martius, leader of the great expedition to Brazil 1817-1820. They have been my inspiration ever since and when I found that von Martius' rare volumes were within 15 miles from my home at Lehigh University, I became a dedicated rainforest scholar and website designer.
I was allowed to scan the shelves of the rare book room which has one of the finest collections of naturalist literature in the US. Thanks to Lehigh U. I have been able to develop my eco-ed program, Remember the Rainforest which I hope will raise eco awareness in our children. You can dream all you want, but the realities are difficult and the path to our dreams is long. We were the last program to be approved for the British government's curriculum online catalogue before it folded. We were scheduled for an exhibit at the Da Vinci Science Center just as all extra exhibits had to be cancelled. Because of the oil spill we waited 6 months to get the approval of the naturalist who reviewed it at the National Wildlife Federation. The toughest part has been running into the little Tree Killers who get angry at the notion that we are all little Tree Killers in some way and it's time to educate ourselves to change our ways ! As Green Girl says "Why be a Tree Killer when you can be an Eco-SuperHero ?" So here goes ! We're getting it out with the help of B&N and Facebook.
