The authors provide brief biographies of 16 women scientists, from Maria Mitchell (1818-1889) to Dorothy Mary Crowfoot Hodgkin (1920- 1994). Each chapter includes a b&w photo and 5-10 pages with information on the subject's early life, education, career, relationships (much gossip, but with references), and contributions to science.
