Reiffen's Choice (The Stoneways, #1)

Twelve-year old Reiffen is the true heir of the Kingdoms of Banking and Wayland. His entire life has been spent in exile in the small farm community of Valing, where he lives with his mother, the Princess Giserre, and his friends Ferris and Avender. Redburr, a shapeshifting bear, and Nolo, a dwarf from the Upside-Down city of Issinlough at the bottom of the Stoneways, have also spent much of the last dozen years in Valing helping protect Reiffen from his uncle King Brannis's attempts to remove him as a threat to the throne.

But has King Brannis really been the one threatening Reiffen? Or has it been the Wizards who killed his father and ruined Reiffen's and Giserre's lives in the first place? When Reiffen is suddenly kidnapped, Ferris's and Avender's choice is easy. With the help of Redburr and Nolo, they decide to rescue their friend before they even know for sure who has taken him, setting off on a chase that will take them from the snow-capped peaks of the High Bavadars to balloon rides beneath the bottom of the world.

Reiffen's choice, however, is not so easy.

Also included in this edition is Mennon's Ride, a poem that tells the tale of how humans and Bryddin first met.
