It is the intention of this writer to provide a tool for the reader to learn about mental illness and learning disabilities and to develop and understanding of how one may approach and handle such persons using the least amount of physical force to detain an individual, while keeping the individual safe as well as the first responders and the public.

About the Author

Kathy A. Roberts, started her career in law enforcement and worked in various professional positions in the legal field. In 2000, Kathy founded her private consulting practice and designed a class specific for public safety personnel of which she has trained law enforcement personnel throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Kathy conducts 2-hour blocks of training to first responders. Kathy holds a Master of Science Degree in Counseling Psychology and Vocational Rehabilitation, and is credentialed as a Disability Analyst.
