Re-Presentations is an anthologized collection of personal essays converging on the topic of the relationship between fictional characters and developing personal identity.
More specifically, this anthology strives to answer questions such as: how and why do we identify with fictional characters? How does that identification reconfigure our personal self-concept and help us learn from them? How do they change us?
Each chapter will introduce a different fictional character or set of fictional characters and explore the author's connection to them, ultimately suggesting how fictionalized individuals can impact real people and cause them to understand and perhaps present themselves in a different way.
Featured fictional characters include: Severus Snape from the Harry Potter series, Olive Kitteridge from Olive Kitteridge, Leo Fitz from Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Yorkie from the Black Mirror episode "San Junipero," Loki from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Mulan from Disney's Mulan, Buttercup from The Powerpuff Girls, Rosa Diaz from Brooklyn 99, and Dean Winchester from Supernatural.
