About the Author

Dr. Seung Hyup Kim attended Seoul National University, from which he received his medical degree in 1979, his Masters degree in 1982, and his PhD in 1988. He completed his internship and residency at Seoul National University Hospital, where he is a board-certified radiologist. He served 3 years in the military while radiologist-in-chief at Cheju Medical Center in Cheju-Do, Korea. He then became an instructor in radiology at Seoul National University, spent 1 year as visiting radiologist at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and advanced through the academic standings to become a professor of radiology, a professor of urology, and an associate dean for student affairs. Now Dr. Kim is the Vice-President of Clinical Services of Seoul National University Hospital.

Dr. Kim was the Secretary General of the 11^th Congress of the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB), held in Seoul in 2006. He is currently the President-elect of the Asian Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (AFSUMB).

Dr. Kim has 300 publications, 5 monographs, and 9 book chapters to his name and has presented more than 230 international lectures.

Description: This book, second in the Radiology Illustrated series, is a superior pictorial guide to gynecologic imaging, organized by organ and disorder.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide representative images from all relevant modalities to illustrate the salient radiologic findings for the vast majority of gynecologic disorders and their mimics. Each illustration is followed by a brief description of the clinical disorder. The objectives are appropriate, and the author meets them.
Audience: This book is written mainly for gynecologists and radiology attendings (body imagers, general radiologists, and women's imagers). Radiology residents will find it useful as well. The author states that women's health practitioners may also gain benefit, and I would agree that physicians assistants and sonographers may indeed use it. However, I doubt any ancillary staff would find it particularly useful.
Features: The book is organized by organ, and further subdivided by clinical disorder. High quality images from each relevant modality are included. Brief descriptions follow each image, describing the salient findings. The first section demonstrates normal anatomy, normal variants, and congenital anomalies, using multiple modalities, which is extremely helpful. The last sections illustrate and discuss hysterosalpingography, sonohysterography, and gynecologic interventional procedures. This book is unique in that it is composed in an atlas-style format, using images as the primary tool to communicate the information.
Assessment: The quality of this atlas-style book is superior, with excellent images. It provides a valuable visual reference to gynecologists and body imagers alike.
