Quilts Make a Family
Carla Salter, the youngest Loose Threads member, asks Harriet Truman and the rest of the group if they would be willing to make quilts for a group of older foster kids she's been working with as part of a class she's taking. The quilters agree, only to find out they aren't the only people interested in helping the kids. A reality television show would like to search for DNA relatives for the children and film any reunions they can create.

The quilters are teaching the kids how to do mending and other life skills that will be useful when they age out of the system. When the TV people discover this, they ask to film the activity at Harriet's studio.
Foster father Paul Holloway is not pleased with the television people and believes they are taking advantage of vulnerable kids, while Harriet suspects his dislike stems from a possible loss of income for him if the kids find family.

When a murder disrupts the children's living situation, the Loose Threads step in as emergency foster parents, further involving themselves in a puzzling situation.

DNA-match relatives start showing up, and Harriet is suspicious, as they all seem to be older men. The TV show producer's assistant suspects them as well, and is found face-down in the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Everyone seems to have an agenda when it comes to the foster kids, but do any benefit the children?

About the Author

After working nearly 30 years in the high-tech industry, where her writing consisted of performance reviews, process specs, and a scintillating proprietary tome on electronics assembly, Arlene Sachitano wrote her first mystery novel: Chip and Die.
Quilt As Desired, the first Harriet Truman/Loose Threads Mystery was published in the fall of 2003 and has been followed by ten more adventures. She also has a sequel to Chip and Die titled Widowmaker.
Arlene is aided in her writing endeavors by her canine companion Navarre. When not writing, she is on the board of directors of the Harriet Vane Chapter of Sisters In Crime as well as Latimer Quilt and Textile Center in Tillamook, Oregon. She teaches knitting at Latimer and, of course, is a quilter.

She’s been married to Jack for more than thirty years. They split their time between Tillamook and Multnomah Village in Portland. Arlene and Jack have three lovely children and three brilliant grandchildren. She also has two wonderful friends named Susan and Margi.
