In addition, advice is given how to avoid travel related infections, especially mosquito-borne viruses such as Zika virus. About the Author

Dr. Laartz is a board certified infectious diseases specialist in Safety Harbor, Florida with years of experience in infection control at hospitals, nursing facilities, rehab facilities and outpatient clinics. He graduated with his BA and MS degrees from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and his MD degree in 1998 from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. He finished his training in Tampa, Florida, where he completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in infectious diseases and tropical medicine at the University of South Florida. His passion in life is helping people understand how to protect themselves from infection and deal with an infection that has already occurred. The infectious disease doctor is always ready to share an anecdote to help someone understand a disease that may be affecting them or a loved one. He started the series “Protect Yourself” and the company Protect U Guard to help educate individuals on what they need to do to protect themselves from infections. In addition, Dr Laartz serves as a consultant for a variety of corporate entities including food processing, restaurants, and sports teams to help protect their customers and employees from infections. In his spare time, he enjoys sailing, scuba diving, and spending time with his children.
