Description: This is a current and comprehensive description of prostate cancer, ranging from prevention and screening to local and novel therapies for all stages of disease. The chapters are well written by some of the most recognized names in the field.
Purpose: The authors present focused chapters on key areas of current practice, controversy, and research in the treatment of patients with prostate cancer. The in-depth reviews offer a high level of detail that is stimulating and enriching without being overwhelming.
Audience: The book is ideal for prostate cancer specialists who are interested in keeping current in the practices and developments in the fields of radiation, medical, and surgical oncology. With chapter topics such as an update of androgen deprivation therapy for advanced prostate cancer and the current state of docetaxel-based therapy in castration-resistant prostate cancer, it is also an excellent, clinically based review for nonspecialists.
Features: There is a greater focus on medical management in this book, but the discussions of surgical and radiation approaches for clinically localized disease are thorough. Noteworthy chapters discuss emerging medical treatments such as immunotherapy and novel androgen and bone-targeted therapies.
Assessment: This is a well-written, concise, and current review of prostate cancer treatment that should appeal to all practitioners. It is a great resource for balanced perspectives on current concepts and treatments for all stages of the disease.
