For Erin and Jen Bennet, growing up in craft-beer-obsessed Colorado made opening Bennet Sisters Brewing their only dream. Their beer is popular, but like any small business, their brewery is never far from closing forever.



When Boston brewer Charlie Betters and his friend Darcy Fitzwilliam ask for their help, the Bennet sisters are happy for the attractive distractions. Life, after all, is more than making beer. Still, while Charlie and Jen seem to be made for each other, Darcy’s pretentiousness and her cruel remarks make a bad first impression.



Despite this, and almost against her will, Erin finds herself attracted to Darcy, but events out of their control result in a misunderstanding that might ruin the chances for love for both couples.

About the Author

Charlotte was born in a tiny mountain town and spent most of her childhood and young adulthood in a small city in Northern Colorado. While she is usually what one might generously call "indoorsy," early exposure to the Rocky Mountains led to a lifelong love of nature, hiking, and camping.

After a lengthy education in Denver, New Orleans, Washington DC, and New York, she earned a doctorate in literature and women and gender studies.

An early career academic, Charlotte has moved several times since her latest graduation. She currently lives and teaches in a small Southern city with her wife and their cat.

Greene’s charming retelling of Pride and Prejudice transplants the Bennets into the world of Colorado craft beer. Erin and Jen Bennet’s brewery is teetering on the edge of financial trouble when they meet wealthy Charles Betters and his friend Darcy, who have just arrived from Boston. As Jen and Charles fall in love, Erin must navigate not only her unwanted attraction to Darcy but her strained relationship with her father, who doesn’t approve of the brewery or Erin’s interest in women; their flighty sister Lydia; and the reappearance of a childhood bully in the Mr. Collins role. The story beats are comfortingly familiar, with the unusual backdrop of brewing and beer competitions, modern setting, and twists on the characters providing enough divergence to keep the reader engaged. Darcy’s dialogue occasionally comes jarringly close to her source, but that is a rare flaw in an otherwise immersive narrative. Feminism, lesbianism, and class are all touched on in this refreshing update on a classic. (Apr.)
