The authors have expertise in interventional cardiology, cardiac imaging including intravascular ultrasound, cardiac rehabilitation, preventive cardiology, endocrinology and metabolism, rheumatology, and economics.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide clinicians with the knowledge and tools on how and when to implement evidence-based preventive strategies for coronary artery disease (CAD) into daily practice.
Audience: Cardiologists, primary care providers, trainees, and midlevel practitioners caring for those at risk for coronary artery disease are the intended audience.
Features: The book is organized into three parts. The first focuses on the atherosclerotic process, the role of endothelium in maintenance of cardiovascular health, and the role of inflammation in CAD. The second part highlights traditional and gender-specific risk factors for CAD. Chapters on lipids discuss LDL subtypes and their associated atherogenic risks along with classes of lipid lowering therapies. Other chapters cover hypertension, tobacco abuse, exercise and CAD prevention, diabetes, obesity, and CAD prevention in women. The final part provides chapters on stress testing for identifying patients at risk for CAD along with antiplatelet therapy for primary and secondary prevention. There are also chapters on the pharmacoeconomics of CAD prevention and innovative models for the delivery of preventive cardiovascular care.
