Purpose: This is a practical guide to how to use psychotropic medications in clinical practice. The goal is to integrate clinical practice with the science of psychopharmacology. The book is not meant as a comprehensive reference, but to present essential facts for daily clinical use.
Audience: This is an exceptional resource for clinicians who prescribe psychiatric drugs for their patients. The unique way it presents the information makes it useful to both prescribers and nonprescribers. It also can be a useful tool for educators in this area.
Features: For each drug, the book discusses therapeutics, covering most brand names in major countries, the class of drug, its uses, FDA approvals, and how they work; side effects, covering the most common side effects, the mechanism of action behind them, and how to treat them; dosing and use, including the range of dosing, long-term use, pharmacokinetics, drug interactions, and how to dose various agents; special populations, such as patients with certain medical problems as well as the elderly, children, adolescents, and pregnant and breast feeding women; and psychopharmacology, where the author gives his opinions on the advantages or disadvantages of a drug as well as his clinical pearls.
