CHAPTER 1
Early in the morning on a brisk winter day, Precious Pound was warmly welcomed into the world. Here she is making her big debut. Arriving 3 months early, she's a miracle through and through! Weighing 1 pound and 4 ounces, her frame ever so slight, Precious Pound was born feisty and ready to put up a fight!
Her little frame was so petite; it fit in the palm of the doctor's hand. So happy to see she was alive and well, the doctor began to do a happy dance.
Once she met her Mommy and Daddy, there was no time to waste.
She was rushed off to the Hospital NICU where she would meet her new best friends.
The NICU was filled with premature babies who arrived on earth too soon. Although tinier than most newborns, their will to thrive and grow was HUGE!
No one could go home until they grew to a healthy weight, so they kept themselves very busy by drinking lots of milk, kicking and wiggling and cooing.
Precious Pound's new best friend, Sam, was very tiny too. He weighed 2 pounds 3 ounces and like most preemies was once fed by tubes. Sam often cried the loudest when his tummy was ready for food, which made the nurses run around for milk to quickly try to soothe him.
Next there is Casey, he has been in the NICU the longest and weighs five pounds. Although Casey is big enough to go home, his little tummy aches each time he drinks his milk.
The doctors are keeping him in the NICU until they find out why milk makes his tummy ache.
They have tried many different kinds of milk to see which one Casey might like, but so far, they have all bothered his tummy and he hasn't liked any of them!
The last of the friends in the NICU group were twin brother and sister Asia and Aiden. Asia was a whopping 3 pounds 5 ounces while Aiden was only 2 pounds 2 ounces. These two couldn't be more different!
Asia was loud and feisty and often kept all the other babies up at night. While Aiden was as quiet as a church mouse and was fast asleep most of the time.
Although the gang looked and behaved differently, they all had one special thing in common. Each arrived in the world before schedule ... and were chosen to be an example of miracles here on earth.
Aside from that, it's safe to say, each little preemie baby wanted to go home soon too!
