About the Author

Professor Hendrik C. Ferreira, University of Johannesburg, South Africa
Hendrik C. Ferreira was promoted to professor in 1989 at the University of Johannesburg. He served two terms as Chairman of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He is additionally a visiting researcher at institutions across Europe and the USA. Professor Ferreira is a former Editor-in-Chief of the Transactions of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers. He has published more than 200 scientific papers, as well as contributing to the Wiley Encyclopedia of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Dr. Lutz Lampe, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of British Columbia, Canada
Lutz Lampe is currently an Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Lampe has been awarded the prestigious UBC Killam Research Prize in 2008. He is an Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, and an Editor for the International Journal on Electronics and Communications. He has served as Vice-Chair of the IEEE Communications Society Technical Committee on Power Line Communications (PLC) since 2005.

Dr. John Newbury, Open University, Manchester, UK
Dr. John Newbury is the Director of Power Communications Systems Research at the Open University in Manchester. He is a Member of the British Standards Institute, Department of Trade and Industry Committee associated with the low and high frequency aspects of the Power Line Telecommunications. Dr. Newbury is a Member of European Commission for Electrotechnical Standardization for Main Power Signaling. Dr. Newbury has authored more than 100 technical papers.

Theo G. Swart, University of Johannesburg, South Africa
Theo received the B.Eng. and M.Eng. degrees in electric and electronic engineering from the Rand Afrikaans University, South Africa and received the D.Eng. degree from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. During his studies he has contributed to over 20 journal and conference papers. He is currently appointed as a researcher in the Telecommunications Research Group at the University of Johannesburg. His research interests include digital communications, power-line communications and error correction coding.
