In analyzing nonlinear phenomena, many mathematical models give rise to problems for which only non-negative solutions make sense. In the last few years, the field of positive solutions of nonlinear problems has grown significantly. Three professors of mathematics from the National University of Singapore, the National University of Ireland, and Nanyang Technological University offer existence criteria for the positive solutions of first and second order singular initial value problems, then present existence theory of the positive solutions for certain classes of boundary value problems involving second and higher order ordinary differential equations. Subsequent chapters offer discrete analogs of several results presented in earlier chapters, and develop existence theory of positive solutions of integral and integrodifferential equations.
