Although often exhilarating, nothing can be more frustrating than being the spouse of a candidate for political office, says Schuck, whose own husband campaigned and lost the race for governor of Colorado. Although seldom directly quoted here, many of the political wives she interviewed (Barbara Bush, Joan Kennedy, Joanne Kemp, etc.) appear to agree.
