About the Author

Mary C. Kent is a native San Francisco Bay Area resident who has received her B.A. and teaching credential from the University of California, Berkeley, and her M.A. and Administrative Credential from the University of San Francisco. Her career has spanned 37 years in various fields of education where she was both an instructor and supervisor in the classroom, Kindergarten through 8th grade. She taught Junior College classes to teachers and administrators, and supervised programs including the Gifted Program, The English As A Second Language Program, and Special Education. She also was a mentor teacher, a supervisor for student teachers, and a program and curriculum developer and trainer for Kindergarten through 8th grade. Mary has successfully written educational grants for her school district and for the county that have been funded. She was the school district Summer School Coordinator with a staff of 102 employees for 20 years, and also coordinated the Before School and After School Child Care and Homework Program at 20 schools for 8 years. Mary has been Teacher of the Year and also has been recognized with awards from the state of California for her accomplishments and innovative ideas. For 20 years, part of her daily assignment was teaching Home Economics. The recipes, decorations, and other party suggestions have all been successfully recreated and presented by her students to faculty and district employees. Many of Mary’s Home Economic students now have successful careers in the food, restaurant and hospitality industries. Mary is a member of the N.A.P.W. – National Association of Professional Women.
