Overview

Pilyong Balong ...along the Riverside is a tale of a child's growth in Pangasinan, one of the most beautiful provinces in the Philippines. It narrates how the protagonist, engrossed in playing street games with friends, initially neglects studies but later grasps the significance of education through life experiences and maternal guidance.

This book is more than just a children's book. It contains information from planting rice to learning about provincial life and the different seasons in the Philippines. Also included is the author's primer to the ancient Philippine writing system called Baybayin.

This book contains translation from English (the main language throughout the book) into Tagalog. Also, this publication includes a Baybayin Primer, serving as an instructional guide for acquiring proficiency in the reading and writing of the ancient Philippine script along with its associated regulations.

About the Author

Allan Torres Camba is a Filipino-American educator who finds joy in expressing creativity through music, literature, and educational content production, both in print and online. He is the founder of Kultura Academy, operating under Riverboy Studios Professional and Continuing Education.

Camba's childhood was spent in a riverside home in Masidem, a small village in Bani, Pangasinan, Philippines. Growing up in this setting, he experienced the richness of Filipino culture and embraced a simple way of living. During summer, Camba cherished moments at the river, engaging in activities like racing tiny sailboats crafted from used flip-flops, plastic bags, and fishball sticks. The fun continued into the rainy seasons, with activities such as catching tadpoles and playing in the rain.

Despite his humble beginnings, Camba pursued higher education, earning a bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences from the University of Washington and a master's degree in Anthropology & Archaeology from Harvard University.
