Overview

No matter how humdrum our daily business may be, it is philosophy that helps us to decide how we go about it. Some of the greatest minds have dedicated themselves to the question of how we should live, as well as probing the big ideas, including good, evil, God, truth, death, and the meaningfulness (or otherwise) of life.PHILOSOPHY IN 50 MILESTONE MOMENTS is a lively, accessible, and thought-provoking introduction to philosophy, its history, and its practitioners. Uniquely, it is structured around a timeline of landmark events that brings to life the evolution of philosophical thought, from the classical era, through the Enlightenment and the Renaissance, to the present day. As well as offering a comprehensive guide to philosophy, this book helps make the big ideas intelligible to us by placing them in their real-world contexts—whatever the “real world” may be.
