Hryhoriy Skovoroda is an outstanding Ukrainian philosopher, educator, and humanist writer of the 18th century. Author of philosophical and pedagogical treatises, poetic works, translations, sermons, parables, fables, he was a highly educated man of his time, his genius grew on national soil. Even during his lifetime, Skovoroda was called "Ukrainian Socrates", "Ukrainian Horace", because he significantly developed philosophy, literature, and pedagogy in Ukraine. In his works, Skovoroda praised the nature of Ukraine, its hard-working people, the desire for happiness and freedom, ridiculed the gentlemen for their parasitism, for bullying the people.
