Overview

Phi in the Sky is a weird remix EP from Kidney Thieves, one of the many female-fronted, Curve-esque rock bands to be signed in the late '90s, after the success of Garbage. The mixes are actually kind of boring, robbing the original songs of their power by simply pasting Free Dominguez's haunting voice over some pretty average techno music. The two regular songs found here, "Black Bullet" and "Zerospace," are decent rock songs that are still nowhere near their contemporaries. The best song here is probably KMFDM's noisy remix of "Spank," which benefits from a solid beat and a catchy chorus. The band has the potential to release better material, but mostly this album is a throwaway disc that is taking up space before the next album, so non-fans need not apply. ~ Bradley Torreano
