Description: This is the ninth edition of a condensed and easy to access reference of up-to-date pharmacotherapy on a variety of disease states encountered in clinical practice.
Purpose: This handbook continues to be an excellent companion to Pharmacotherapy: A Pathophysiologic Approach, 9th edition, DiPiro et al. (McGraw-Hill, 2014). It is designed to provide both practitioners and students with current pharmacotherapy information that can be used in practice.
Audience: This is an invaluable resource for both seasoned practitioners and students during clinical rotations. In addition, it is an excellent companion to the textbook for those who wish to quickly look up key information that is provided as succinctly as possible.
Features: For a book of its size, it does a good job of providing detailed, critical information. Disorders are alphabetized within their respective chapters and each chapter includes the disease state definition, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of therapeutic outcomes. The treatment section offers much more clinical information, such as treatment goals, treatment recommendations, nonpharmacological treatment, and drug selection guidelines. In addition to the bulleted format, the book is rich with key tables and figures as well as treatment algorithms.
Assessment: This book, which easily fits in a lab coat pocket, continues to be an invaluable source of succinctly organized clinical information designed to assist healthcare providers easily obtain up-to-date information.
