Pepper finds a Home
Pepper, initially called Pepito, was a mixed breeds dog, also known as a mutt, which many people say is the best kind of pet to have. He had a rough time during the first several months of his life, spending much of his puppy time in a dog pound. A man who really had very little time to dedicate to caring for a puppy initially adopted him, and Pepper suffered for it. Due to the overcrowding in pounds and animal shelters, dogs are put down if they are not adopted within a predetermined period, and Pepito’s days were numbered. However, he had the good fortune of being selected by a caring and loving family that gave him the type of home he deserved, and renamed him Pepper. This book, Pepper Finds a Home, is the first of a series of children’s books depicting his life’s adventures and comical disasters during his blessed fourteen years. The stories will show how he returned the love and affection he received from his “family”, and how enjoyably fulfilling it can be to have a pet like Pepper. All of the stories about Pepper are true, taken from actual experiences and happenings. There is no doubt regarding the affection for Pepper felt by the author.

CHAPTER 1

The puppies were born on Halloween. There were five of them. Two were white. Two were Black. And the last one was black and white. He was the runt of the litter.

Daisy, the puppies' mother, took very good care of them. Feeding them, cleaning them, and watching over them. She especially watched over the littlest one, since his brothers and sisters teased him all the time.

When the puppies were old enough, it was time to find them all a loving home. Daisy was very sad to let her puppies go, but she knew they needed to have a home and family of their own to take care of.

One by one the puppies found a home until there was only the littlest puppy left. It seemed no one wanted him. Until one day a man came and took the littlest puppy with him.

The man named the littlest puppy Pepito. He left Pepito alone all day, every day, while he went to work. Pepito was very lonely all day. He was very hungry and thirsty since the man didn't leave him anything to eat or drink.

One day, when Pepito was 6 months old, the man decided he really couldn't take care of Pepito, so he took him to the dog pound. Dr. Leon at the shelter gave Pepito a bath and some food. He put him in a cage and prayed that a nice family would come in and adopt him.

Meanwhile, in another part of town, Joseph and Anne were begging their mother to get a puppy. Joseph called the dog pound and asked Dr. Leon if there were any puppies that needed homes. Dr. Leon told Joseph that he was expecting someone to bring puppies in momentarily. Hanging up, Joseph ran to tell his mother. He begged her to go see the puppies. Mother gave in and off they went to the dog pound.
