Overview

The History of Buddhism spans from the 6th century BCE to the present, starting with the birth of the Buddha Siddhartha Gautama. This makes it one of the oldest religions practiced today. Throughout this period, the religion evolved as it encountered various countries and cultures, adding to its original Indian foundation Hellenistic as well as Central Asian, East Asian, and Southeast Asian cultural elements. For we can say shortly 'doctrine of Karman,' meaning all the speculations concerned with action, and especially the dogma of the ripening of action. The doctrine of Karman is more than the belief in the reward of good actions and the punishment of bad ones, here below or in another life; such a belief is a very common one and has nothing specifically Indian. This book contains the fundamental and basic information of subject and the selection of contents makes it an appropriate book for the students.

Dr. Kamal Taori belongs to the UP cadre of the 1968 batch of the I.A.S. He had a short stint in the Army and has doctorate in Rural entrepreneurship. Kamal Taori was born, brought up and educated in Wardha. An idealist, with bubbling energy and enthusiasm, right from the beginning, whose exposure to the harsh realities of life and society, and encounter with corresponding hurdles and hardships, has in no way dempened his spirits. Quite the contrary, it has reinforced his resolve to awaken about a positive change in society through scientific, rational, analytical explorations. There are times when he does feel pained and anguished with the insensitivity of some of those around him. and more often than not, is quite vocal in expressing the same. This has led him into a number of love-hate relationships. Most people Either instantly fall in love with him or detest him. Some even feel envious and jealous of him. He has been with the Khadi and Village Industries Sector for nearly 12 years. This was his opportunity for a deeper understanding of Gandhi, Vinoba. Lohia and Kumarappa and to sublimate his ambition into a mission with holistic action. A short assignment with the UNDP, and subsequent study of the United Nations system were helpful in the convergence of his life-long studies, experience and understanding into a world-view and a global vision. He is always concerned about what could have been done, as against what has been done. He is very intolerant of the gap between human word and action, and is consistently working at ways and means of ushering people out of the web of hypocrisy, without which, he seems convinced, its unique potential cannot actualize into a living reality. He finds no reason as to why it cannot emerge amongst the richest and most powerful nations in the world, and is fully alive to the need for the right policies. He has a very sharp intellect and extraordinary capacity for instant macro-analysis of any situation, and to probe into its micro linkages. He is very prompt in conducting a SWOT analysis, both subjective as well as objective and insists on learning lessons from past experiences on perpetual basis. He is leading a crusade for bringing about transparency and accountability and viability in public life. A Social Science Scientific researcher and author of a number of books and research papers, he has organized and led many a seminar and workshop on a whole range of socio-economic issues and topics. Sensitised qualities and potential constructive creative, humane. compassionate, goes out of the way to help the genuinely needy and a strong optimistic believer in frank, fearless, sustainable human development potentials.
