Our Extraordinary Year Together- In this commemorative edition, People looks back at an extraordinary year, one marked by tragedy and heroism, by great challenges and by greater resilience. Facing a pandemic, health care and other essential workers bravely stepped up, and grateful masses clapped for them nightly for months. People practiced social distancing in order to avoid the spread of coronavirus, but we also drew close virtuallyeven Queen Elizabeth learned how to video conference! and we shared the strange experience of watching baseball with no crowds, and Saturday Night Live produced in cast members homes. After weeks of seeing mostly empty cities, people poured into the streets to protest injustice and to declare that Black Lives Mattersetting off an overdue national conversation. We collectively mourned the passing of beloved figures including Kobe Bryant, Chadwick Boseman, and Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Oh, and we had a presidential election too. Plenty of people were ready to send 2020 to the history books long before it ended; indeed it was a year few will ever forget.
