About the Author

Neal Hotelling is a Michigan native and a business professional with a passion for history who felt he hit the trifecta in 1991 when he landed the job as Pebble Beach Company’s Golf Operations Manager—great golf, great company, great history and tradition. He soon learned how much of the rich history had been forgotten, and while rising through the ranks as Director of Corporate Affairs, then Licensing and Special Projects, he continues to seek out and piece together historic records to broaden the understanding of the role Pebble Beach Resorts has played in the development of the Monterey Peninsula and as an international golf icon. He has authored many articles on golf and history and also serves as Executive Editor of Pebble Beach: The Magazine. The International Network of Golf awarded him with the 1999 Golf Book of the Year for Pebble Beach Golf Links: The Official History. He has additionally authored Titleist's Viewers Guide to the 2000 U.S. Open and co-authored Pebble Beach Heritage Collection.

Joann Dost was born in Washington D.C. and raised in Vienna, Virginia and took up golf at the age of 15, winning the Maryland State Junior Girls' Championship, the DC Junior Girls' Championship and the Tournament of Junior Champions, leading to five years as an LPGA golf professional. In 1977, Dost moved to Pebble Beach and began her passion for photography, studying under the legendary Ansel Adams.  Her mentor deferred to Dost when asked to photograph Pebble Beach for a commemorative book being prepared for the 1982 U.S. Open and a new career was born.  For nearly 30 years she has photographed Pebble Beach Resorts and its courses and now travels internationally to capture the essence of golf course architecture and the spirit of the game with her camera. Over the years, Dost has received many awards for her photography. Her work can be seen in national and international magazines and her fine art is available through better galleries worldwide.
