Piano Hive is the collaborative project of composers Janette Mason and James Alexander Thompson.
Piano Hive is all about creating piano music that not only sounds great but is infinitely enjoyable to play.
We have taken the upmost care whilst composing to make sure the pieces fit under the fingers well, explore various pianist techniques and take in a variety of key and time signatures.
James, a classically trained pianist from an early age went on to study jazz at the Sage Gateshead before attaining a BA Hons in Pop Music from Leeds College of Music and winning the Friends Prize Award for his penultimate piano recital. He has since then been involved in many aspects of the music business, from live performing, session work for TV ads, composing and educating. Having spent time abroad teaching in Hong Kong and Thailand, James is now UK based focusing his creativity on writing with various composers across the pop and classical genres.
Janette is a jazz pianist, composer, arranger and producer with a diverse musical career.
She has toured extensively with artists such as Oasis, Pulp and Robert Wyatt and has been musical director for various TV shows including the Jonathan Ross Show. She is a sought after arranger and producer and has contributed tracks to many recordings including the soundtrack CD to Cars 3 and Lea DeLaria’s, The Live Smoke Sessions, which reached the Grammy Ballot. She is a recording artists in her own right with five CDs released to date.
