Overview

Former Minnesota Congressman and broadcast veteran Jason Lewis's vivid account of the radical left, the media and politics in the public arena during the Trump presidency. From Washington to Minneapolis; from the White House to the epicenter of the worst rioting since the 1960s; Lewis was in the middle of it all. The early successes, the failed midterms and his tumultuous campaign for the US Senate in 2020 in the midst of historic chaos in his home state.

Party Animal is a blistering critique of blind partisanship, party infighting, raging activism and an ethically bankrupt press corps by someone who went to Washington alongside the 45th President. Just as important, the book is a policy prescription from a former member of Congress who was described as "a serious policy wonk" for his work in the 115th Congress. It's also the talk radio host unplugged—setting the record straight on the America First movement and how a new revolutionary 'squad' of extremists is trying to undo it.

If you want to know what it was really like being member of Congress while a politicized 'swamp' desperately tried to bring down the Trump presidency, then read this fascinating tale of what was actually achieved and what might have been. It's a first hand look at life on the ground in an era marked by polarizing dysfunction. The ups and downs, the ins and outs, the good, the bad and the really ugly of life in Washington during one of the most tumultuous times in modern history.

"I have read a lot of political autobiographies and biographies, but if you really want to know what life today as a politician in Washington, D.C. is like and how the legislative 'sausage' is made, you must read this book. If you want to understand D.C.'s bureaucratic swamp and the establishment party, how the left takes down their political opponents, and the weaponization of the press, you need to read this book."
—Dr. John Lott, President , Crime Prevention Research Center and author of More Guns Less Crime

About the Author

The Honorable Jason Lewis (R-MN) represented Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional district during the 115th Congress. He served on the Budget; Education & Workforce; and Transportation & Infrastructure Committees.

While in Congress, Lewis prioritized working with President Trump on his America First agenda and was described as “a serious policy wonk” and a “leader in the battle to pass” health care and tax reform. He also co-authored the Juvenile Justice Reform Act of 2018 which passed Congress and was signed into law by the President.

Prior to serving in Washington, Lewis worked in his family’s small business and was a broadcaster for 25 years hosting The Jason Lewis Show. Starting in Denver and Charlotte, he returned to his mother’s home of Minnesota where he became nationally syndicated. It was there he met his wife Leigh, a swim team coach, and they have two daughters.

Lewis holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa, a Master’s degree from the University of Colorado-Denver and is the author of the 2010 book, Power Divided is Power Checked. The Argument for States Rights.
