Overview

I have been inspired by children my whole life and wanted to do something that would put a smile on their face. I came up with these poems, hoping that it would brighten up a child's day.

About the Author

Stephanie Green is a young woman with big dreams. At a very young age she decided she would go to Africa to serve the poor children. That dream was dashed when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age nine. After three surgeries and a lot of heartache, she was left with seizures and other physical setbacks. As a result of the invasive surgeries, she went from being an honor student to being in special education. However this did not stop Stephanie from dreaming about how she could help children less fortunate than herself. As a way to cope with her setbacks, Stephanie discovered her love for writing poetry. She began to express herself though Children's poetry. She has written her first children's poetry book called Paint For Me a Picture. The book was designed so that a poem is on one page with the facing page left blank so the child can use their imagination to draw a picture to coincide with the poem. The book becomes a collaborative and personalized keepsake for years to come. Stephanie hopes to continue on with her passion and write another book in the near future. While her initial dream of helping children in Africa has changed, she continues to passionately help the less fortunate children right here in the U.S. Her wish is to use the profits from this book to build a tree house resort hotel. She wants to invite less fortunate children to be her guest for an adventure and fun. This way, she can use her Early Child Development Degree from Allen Hancock College to benefit her young clients. Stephanie is currently receiving support from the Tri-counties Regional Center in San Luis Obispo California and hopes to gain employment through Pathpoint services in San Luis Obispo in the near future.

CHAPTER 1

What is fire

What is fire
How does it grow
How wide is the ocean
How low does it go
How tall is the sky
Where does it end
How long is the rainbow
And why does it bend
Why is each day
Said to be new
Why is my love for you
So very true
I ask you these questions
Cause I want to know
How you got the answers
How far did you go

Our Ocean

The ocean is such
a beautiful thing
Pacific Atlantic
hear the waves sing
All of the fish
go swimming around
But all of the crabs
like to stay on the ground
Carol is pretty
it's so colorful
It's all so different
it's so beautiful
The ocean was made
for you and for me
So that God's creation
we could see

Where Will You Go

Up down
and all around
Except you cannot
touch the ground
Where will you go
I want to know
Up high in the sky
where the raindrops do grow

WATER?

WATER WATER
WHERE IS IT FROM
WHERE DOES IT GO
AND WHERE DOES IT RUN
WHAT IS IT'S NAME
AND HOW TALL IS IT
IS IT THICK IS IT THIN
WHERE DOES IT FIT
IT HAS SO MANY SIZES
THICK THIN SMALL TALL
IT CAN'T PICK JUST ONE
IT MUST PICK THEM ALL

STARS

WHAT ARE THOSE LIGHTS.
TWINKLING UP THERE?
THEY'RE SO VERY PRETTY,
HANGING UP IN THE AIR.
I WISH I COULD HAVE ONE,
JUST FOR MY NIGHT LIGHT;
BUT I THINK IT WOULD BE
JUST A LITTLE TOO BRIGHT!
I WONDER WHO MADE THEM,
WHO PUT THEM UP THERE?
WITH SUCH PERFECT POSITION,
WITH SUCH SPECIAL CARE!

Flowers

Pretty little flowers;
Where are you from?
My Grandma says you came from
Her pretty green thumb!
I love your dainty petals;
They're as pretty as can be.
How I want to pick you
So very desperately!
But you're so very pretty
Right just where you are.
No matter if I look at you
From near or far.
Beautiful little flowers,
Whoever made you,
Was a wonderful Creator
And hand a great idea too!

A Bit of Everything

A little bit of good
with a little bit of sad
A little bit of good
with a little bit of bad
Put them all together
and what do you get?
A great big hug and a kiss
with extra spit

"WIND"

WHAT IS THE WIND, WHERE DOES IT BLOW?
DOES IT FLOW ALONG WITH THE
SOFT WHITE SWEET SNOW?
OR MAYBE IT TRAVELS STRAIGHT
THROUGH THE CLOUDS
WHERE THE THUNDER DOES ROAR
MAKING NOISES SO LOUD?
CUD IT BE THAT IT FLOWS THROUGH
THE GRASS THAT'S SO GREEN
LIKE AN ENORMOUS GREAT BIG MOWING MACHINE?
MAYBE IT LIKES TO BLOW THROUGH THE WAVES
THAT COME CRASHING DOWN
AGAINST THE BIG CAVES?
BUT WAIT COULD IT BE THAT JUST MAYBE
THE WIND LOVES TO BLOW THROUGH EVERYTHING?

"IN MY LITTLE HEAD"

ROSES ARE BLUE VIOLETS ARE RED
THAT'S HOW IT IS IN MY LITTLE HEAD
CHERRIES ARE SOUR LEMONS ARE SWEET
THAT'S HOW THINGS ARE IN MY WORLD THAT'S SO NEAT
SNAILS ARE FAST TURTLES SPEED BY
LOOK UP IN THE AIR AND WATCH THE FISH FLY
EVERYTHING'S DIFFERENT THAN THE WAY THINGS REALLY ARE
BUT THAT'S MY IMAGINATION IT CAN GO THAT FAR

THE SUN

what's that light
up in the sky
it shines so bright
and I don't know why
it makes it bright
all over the place
and puts the freckles
on my cute little face
it makes plants grow
up from the ground
and keeps the earth
moving around
it makes kids grow
big and strong
and keeps them playing
all day long

GREETINGS & SALUTATIONS

HOW ARE YOU TODAY
THEY ALWAYS SAY
HOW DO YOU DO
AND PIC A BOO
GOOD MORNING GOOD BYE
AND SHAKE HANDS AS WELL
AND OH MY GEE THANKS
AND WASN'T THAT SWELL
HOW ABOUT YOU'RE WELCOME
OR HEY YOU
OR MAYBE COME BACK
WHEN YOU'RE NOT SO BLUE
WELL WHICH SHOULD I SAY
I JUST CAN'T DECIDE
OR MAYBE JUST LOOKING
AND PASSING ON BY

DREAMING AWAY

tonight when you sleep
and are dreaming away
let us both meet
on a big stack of hay
we'll both ride horses
and we'll feed them too
then we'll go hoppin'
with a big kangaroo
after that's done
we must have some lunch
how 'bout a sandwich
and hawiian punch
then we'll go drifting
in a hot air balloon
so much to see
in the mid -afternoon
then we'll go fishing
off the river bank
and catch some fish
to putin our tank
so sleep well tonight
cause you'll be so busy
dreaming away about you and me

"I Wonder?"

I wonder who did it could it have been you?
Or maybe the gorilla who lives in the zoo
Maybe my neighbor who lives down the street
Could it be that puppy I love to give treats
It could be my friend who always comes over
Or the man at the park who's name is Grover
Do you think it could be my teacher at school
Or maybe the lifeguard who works at the pool
Could it have me I do not think so
But then again I really don't know

"LIVING UP IN THE SKY"

DOES ANYONE LIVE UP IN THE SKY
IT SURE WOULD BE NICE TO LIVE THAT HIGH
JUMPING ON CLOUDS ALL DAY LONG
HEARING THE BIRDS SING THEIR PRETTY SONGS
I THINK I'D LOVE TO LIVE UP IN THE SKY
IT'D MAKE ME FEEL SO BIG AND HIGH

LOVE IS SO LOVELY

I think that love
is such a pretty thing
to me it's as pretty
as my mother's diamond ring
love is so sweet
and is always there
it guides you where you go
just about anywhere
love is so faithful
it's so very pure
it's always happy
and of itself is so sure
I love love
and love loves me
and together we are
so very happy

SPRING IS HERE

OH HOW I LOVE
WHEN SPRINGTIME COMES
THE FLOWERS AL BLOOM
AND I GROW SOME
BLUEBIRDS SING
AND BABIES THEY BRING
WE'LL SEE ALL THE BEARS
WAKE UP FROME THEIR SLEEP
COMING OUT OF THEIR CAVES
FINDING SOMETHING TO EAT
BUNNIES WILL HOP
ALL AROUND THEY WILL GO
GUIDING THEIR BABIES
HOW TO HOP WILL THEY SHOW
I LOVE SPRING
BECAUSE IT BRINGS
REASONS FOR
MY HEART TO SING

"Time Is Ticking"

Time is ticking all through the day
I just can't wait to go out and play
But first must do all my chores
Must make my bed sweep my room's floor
Finally time to go and play
Until it's time to hit the hay

Fly Me to the Moon

Let's go to the moon
Then to Jupiter and Mars
We'll play around with Pluto
Then we'll jump from star to star
We'll see a lot of comets
Flying around in space
Trying to get comfortable
Finding their perfect place
Let's not go to the sun
Cause it's a bit too hot
It's the center of the universe
The one main hot spot

PAINT FOR ME A PICTURE

PAINT FOR ME A PICTURE
OF EVERYTHING YOU SEE
THINGS THAT ARE AROUND YOU
AND WHAT YOU CHOOSE TO BE
SING FOR ME A SONG
OF WHAT'S INSIDE OF YOU
EVERYTHING YOU FEEL
AND WHAT YOU CHOOSE TO DO
EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT
THAT'S HOW IT'S MEANT TO BE
SO OPEN YOUR EARS
AND OPEN YOUR EYES
AND YOU'LL NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL SEE

Please Tell Me

Grass grass
Why does it grow
Why do leaves fall
And why does it snow
Why do dogs bark
And kitty cats meow
Why do birds chirp
Please tell me how
Why is sugar
So very sweet
Why are bubbles
So very neat
Isn't it cool
God gave everything
Their own special gifts
So to us joy they'd bring
