Pacific Holiday: Countdown at Sea
Thomas Salvatore Burke is a U S Secret Service agent cruise ship passenger who teams up with the ship’s security chief and an assistant purser to rescue the Alaska-bound ship, Pacific Holiday, and its passengers and crew from hijackers in the employ of Columbian drug lords. The three enlist the cooperation of the RCMP, Canadian and US Coast Guard and other military forces, the Marshals Service, and a team of U S Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal parachutists to disable an IED and take back the vessel.

The action takes place in twenty-four hours over the 2011 Fourth of July weekend. Locations include ships at sea around Vancouver Island, four bases in British Columbia, offices in Washington, DC and Seattle, WA, and airports in British Columbia, Illinois, and Texas. Violence is minimal (3 deaths) – the focus of Pacific Holiday: Countdown at Sea is on process and how the trio gets the ship’s officers, crew, and outside resources to avoid disaster.

About the Author

Michael Waring had a long career as a school administrator before turning his attention to travel and writing. As a youth, he had the privilege of living on or near U S Navel bases and air stations. He has close relatives who had or continue to have careers in four branches of the military including the United States Coast Guard.

Serving as a school administrator provided opportunities to know and work with many interesting people including one who was a small town police officer before becoming a U S Secret Service special agent and the model for Thomas Burke.

Many days on cruise ships and several trans-Atlantic crossings on the Cunard Queens gave him an opportunity to observe ship’s officers, security officers, medical staff, pursers, and other personnel as they work to insure safe passages for all passengers and crew.
