Our God Wears Denim Overalls
What career would Jesus follow if he came to the earth today? I believe he would be a farmer, working sixteen-hour days, dressed in denim overalls. As he did in Judea, he would possess human characteristics--a face, eyes, ears, hands, feet, arms, and back. His body would be brutalized as it was two thousand years ago. Not only on a Roman cross, but by mobs of followers who would turn on him when their ears were no longer tickled by his words. Have you ever wondered what it was like to be God and have human attributes at the same time? Our God Wears Denim Overalls examines the suffering Jesus endured on earth, but also explores the beauty of heaven that Jesus can see, and we, as his followers, will be entitled to experience after the resurrection. ""Glenn dismantled the idea of God being 'unable' to identify with the human condition as a man while being God. These touching stories and heartfelt poetry generate thought provoking questions that lead way to rediscovering the Jesus that refused to be eclipsed by a stained-glass version of himself. Reading about Christ as he came in a lowly state to purposefully identify with his creation rekindled deep affection and worship for our Savior."" --Kenneth Case, Missionary Intern supporting a recent church plant in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. --Denise Case, Teacher and supporting staff for Wesley International School, a Christian school project in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. ""Wow! Glenn Goree does a great job with his book Our God Wears Denim Overalls. Often, we have the wrong concept of Jesus and God. Glenn allows us to see Jesus not as a namby-pamby, but really just like us. Not untouchable, but one who was tempted in every way just as we are. He also helps us to see God in a different light with the questions he presents. Not that he or we have all the answers, but still a God in whom we can put all our trust."" --Daniel Goodyear, Missionary to Central Africa Glenn H. Goree has over thirty years of counseling experience. He currently serves as a mental health consultant for two global organizations, and is a marriage and family counselor at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio. His qualifications include MA, MEd, and Licensed Professional Counselor. Glenn is the author of Soular Eclipse; It's OK, Jesus Loves You Anyway; The Beauty in Ugly; Nails from Bullets; The Flea, the Minnow, the Elephant, and the Whale; Hope for the Broken Spirit; and Where Egos Dare.
