About the Author

Edward Derrick Bell, a native of Chicago, Illinois, who was educated at historically black Tennessee State University and Michigan State University, has nearly thirty years of experience in providing educational opportunities to black and brown students hailing from low-income families. During his twenty-eight-year career with the State University of New York (SUNY), he developed model recruitment and retention programs which have enabled thousands of low-income students to attend college and earn degrees.
