Overview

In golf, there are drills for every tiny, technical element of the swing.

But where are the drills that help a player improve their mental game and develop a focused mind?
Telling a student to 'stay in the moment'.'focus on the target' or 'play one shot at a time' are just words, if we don't have the tools to help a player become aware of how these things actually feel.

OSVEA, the 5 components of a golf shot, is precisely that kind of tool.

Through the practical drills, challenges and games in this book, players can develop their own personal interpretation of what the world's top players do in the pre and post-shot routine. (They can also see just how much fun golf training can be.)

What's more, with OSVEA everything you think, feel and experience during these challenges is transferred into your game - helping you enjoy a higher level of competitive golf.

This is a book for coaches, for dedicated parents and for passionate players who want to know more about the powers and possibilities of a stronger mental game. This is OSVEA.

About the Author

In 2009 Iain began to evolve his passion for coaching with his good friend, Matthew Cooke, at the Cookridge Hall Golf Club in Leeds, England. In 2011, Iain co-founded Leap Golf UK, creating and implementing a psychological conditioning program called OSVEA: 5 components of a golf shot, at the Nike Golf Academy in Leeds. During this period, Iain worked with elite junior golfers and European Tour professionals alongside academy director Mark Pearson. Iain also presented to the English Schools Golf Association on the importance of psychological conditioning for junior athletes and worked alongside Marcus Bell as part of the Nottingham University golf coaching team. By the end of 2013, Iain had fulfilled a lifelong ambition by moving to the United States in order to share his passion for helping junior athletes develop the psychological tools needed to be successful in golf and life. His psychological conditioning program was implemented at the Bishops Gate Golf Academy (Florida) in 2014. By 2015, it was incorporated into their sister program at the International Junior Golf Academy (South Carolina). This program is now delivered all over world from the Game Like Training ‘virtual classroom’ based just outside Atlanta (Georgia). Increased presenting opportunities in recent years have undoubtedly played a role in Iain being recognized as one of Golf Digest’s Top young coaches of 2017. These opportunities included PGA Tour Radio (2015, 2016), the PGA Show in Orlando (2017), and the Open Forum event hosted by Chris Como (2017). In 2016 Iain completed a mentorship program with renowned sports psychologist and neuroscientist Dr. Fran Pirozzlo. He also worked in collaboration on coach education with world renowned golf biomechanist Dr. Robert Neal. Most recently Iain has begun to conduct research with Matthew Cooke on the use of think aloud protocol in golf. Iain also works very closely with Penn State University and the PGA Professional Golf Management course, helping their students understand the science of sports psychology and apply what they learn in the classroom into their own golf game.
