This first edition work, by one of the world's foremost ophthalmic echographers, is a comprehensive, descriptive atlas of ophthalmic ultrasonography. It inclues a comprehensive description of the ultrasound characteristics of numerous ophthalmic disease processes. According to the authors, this book is designed to review the basic principles of ultrasonography and to provide a wide variety of images of ocular diseases. The goals and met and surpassed. The principal author, an assistant professor of ophthalmology at the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute, is a world-class authority and teacher in the field of ophthalmic ultrasonography. She has written this book to serve as a thorough reference for the both the experienced and inexperienced echographer. This atlas is divided into ten chapters, each focusing on the ultrasound characteristics of particular areas of the eye, and of diseases processes of the eye. The first chapter provides an excellent introduction to the basic principles of ultrasonography and describes how one would perform a basic echographic examination. One of the many strong points is the description of the use of both a- and b-scan to finely define a disease process. This atlas is a worthwhile investment for anyone who has ever obtained an ophthalmic ultrasound for patient care purposes as well as for the seasoned or unseasoned ophthalmic echographer. The style is user friendly and serves as a comprehensive reference for all.

Purpose: The purpose is to provide the newest technologies to improve our diagnostic abilities. We will all benefit from this new information. The authors have produced a high quality second edition.
Audience: Anyone in the ophthalmic field will reap the benefits of using this book to enhance their knowledge. I would highly recommend it to anyone in the ophthalmic field. The authors are leading authorities in their field.
Features: This second edition covers all aspects of ophthalmic echography from the basics such as indications and techniques to differentiation of the most complex pathology. The authors have made the complex cases seem clear with their approach in displaying the diagnostic images. The explanations are very clear and describe the echograms well. The information on high resolution is an added bonus.
Assessment: This new edition provides us with a greater understanding of how useful and needed ultrasound is in this field and the benefits of the newer technology.
