Opal's Circle
Excerpt from Opal's Circle:
“Sam,why was Grandma crying?”
“You do have a way of getting right to the heart of things, don’t you?” he smiled down at me. I just looked at him unsure of what my expression was saying to him, if anything at all. “Helen was crying because you successfully traveled back in time and returned without any ill effect.”
“I still don’t understand why she was crying.”
“Oh, Opal, she’s crying because she is so happy! She is happy because this means that there is hope of rescuing your parents!”
“Sam! I don’t know how to time jump! That just happened and it knocked me out cold, if you remember!” I heard the panic creeping into my voice. “I don’t know how to make it happen again.”
His arms went around me, his hand petting my hair. “Shh. Shh. I know, Opal. It’s alright. Everything’s fine.” I pushed myself away from him.
“No! Everything is not fine! My parents are lost somewhere or somewhen, my brother I never knew I had is evil and would like to kill me, my brother that I do know and love is about to leave this safe place and open himself up to attack from God only knows what, my father’s brother is a real live blood sucking vampire, we have strange people, one of whom I can’t stop thinking about and it’s confusing the hell out of me, invading our family and Luna says we need them but I can’t for the life of me understand why, there is a wolf eating the deer and in our woods, you’re suffering on a daily basis over a past that you can’t forgive yourself for, I’m supposed to be the center of our circle and I don’t even know what that means, everyone expects me to do something but every one is keeping secrets from me, and my grandmother is in the kitchen crying! Did I leave anything out?”
He chuckled. “A few things actually. But I believe you hit most of the high points.”
