Overview

A gripping story of two brothers who lost their lives on the same night.

It was a night we thought we'd never forget. It was graduation-and, like most teens, we were looking forward to celebrating with our friends. We knew it was the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Some of us were heading off to college. Others were moving away. We had made some amazing friends and even better memories.

While we were sitting around reminiscing and laughing, someone pulled out a bottle of pills. Oxy. In a brief moment, we made One Choice that we can never take back. How were we to know this would be our last night? When you're a teenager, you don't think that One Choice can end it all. But it can. We are here to tell you that your choice matters.

Here is our story.

Becky and her husband Mike love spending time at Donnell Lake, Michigan with their two young adult sons, Justin and Matt. Nick Savage was a steady 19-year-old with a calm demeanor and contagious smile. He was a first-year student at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, where he was majoring in chemistry and microbiology. During Nick's tenure on the hockey team at Penn High School in Mishawaka, Indiana, he led his teammates to the state runner-up title. Coaches and teammates say he led by example, both on and off the ice. Nick loved playing ice hockey, riding dirt bikes, and listening to music. Nick especially enjoyed the family lake house on Donnell Lake in southwest Michigan, where he liked to be out on the pontoon boat, or around the bonfire, with friends. Nick lost his life on June 14, 2015, due to an accidental overdose at a friend's graduation party.
Jack was an adventurous 18-year-old with a crooked smile and infectious laugh who graduated from Penn High School in Mishawaka, Indiana. Jack was captain of the state championship ice hockey team, where coaches and teammates say he led by example. Jack loved ice hockey, hunting, waterskiing, racing dirt bikes, and time around the bonfire. His favorite family pastime was wrestling with his brothers - whom he affectionately called his "bros" - and having fun with his friends at the family lake house on Donnell Lake in southwest Michigan. Jack was headed to Ball State University to major in business, until he lost his life on June 14, 2015, due to an accidental overdose at a friend's graduation party.
