On The Road To Heaven's Door: An Encounter with the Ultimate Reality

In the mid-1970s, during the hippie counterculture revolution, the author embarks on a spiritual journey from Istanbul to India along the hippie trail, and then from India to Southeast Asia and the Far East. While in South India, he is initiated into Hatha Yoga by the late Swami Gitananda, which changes his life forever. Shortly afterwards, he begins to experience supernatural powers—known as Siddhis in yoga—with premonitory dreams, past-life experiences, visions of goddesses, and out-of-body experiences in supra mundane worlds. Traveling back and forth between India and the West, he deepens his yoga practice through advanced lessons with Swami Vishnudevananda at Sivananda Ashram in the Laurentians, north of Montreal, and, later on, with an Indian yogi named Ambu, from the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry, India who becomes his guide in interpreting his extraordinary experiences. After more than 20 years of unrelenting practice, in 1997, the author has a profound and mystical experience of Nirvikalpa Samadhi—an experience of the Eternal Self—which is recounted in vivid detail. This is a true story of self-realization.

About the Author

Roman Stroppetti earned a BA in History and Foreign Languages from Concordia University (Canada) in 1972 and an MA in Comparative Literature from the University of Montpellier (France) in 1974. After traveling overland from Istanbul to India, and later to Bali and the Far East, longing to know more about ancient Indian civilization and related Indo-European subjects, he earned his Ph.D. in French Language and Civilization from the University of Montpellier in 1986 with his dissertation, Anquetil-Duperon, sa place et son rôle dans la Renaissance Orientale, a work on the beginnings of Indian Studies in Europe during the 18th and 19th centuries. As a teacher of French and English as Foreign Languages, he has taught all over the world, in the East and West, for over 20 years. He has also taught yoga in Montpellier, France for five years. While living in Europe in the 90s, thanks to his worldwide travel experience in Asia, he became a handicraft salesman working in Antique Fairs throughout Central Italy, namely, Arezzo, Perugia, Fano, Ravenna, and Munich in Southern Germany. Finally, as a linguist, he is also fluent in French, Italian, Spanish and German. He now resides with his Taiwanese wife, Ching Ju, in Montreal, Canada where he spends his time writing books on yoga and his life as a traveling yogi.
