On Mullett Lake
At fifty, Paul Crockett is as haunted by the loss of his wife as he was the day the cancer took her twenty years ago. Convinced there will never again be a love like hers, he lives with a painful hole in his soul. Returning to his roots in Northern Michigan, he survives as a recluse, working construction and doing odd jobs. His passion for life is gone and yet he lives on. Once you’ve known true love, there’s no going back, or so he would believe. If there is any redemption in his world, it is the oneness with nature that permeates his being.

Claudia Cardinelli tried to remain optimistic, despite the tough economy, but things changed. She suffered the miscarriage shortly after her father passed away and her guilt drove her husband into the arms of another woman. She was gathering her strength, preparing to confront him when his untimely death shattered the last of her resolve. Thirty-five and at the nadir of her life, she seeks retreat, heading north to the lake house where she meets Crockett. When Claudia enters his life, her unbridled spirit changes everything. For Claudia, to live is to love, and to love is to trust.

Love works in mysterious ways and its power to rejuvenate can be miraculous…

About the Author

Michael Coburn was born in Detroit and graduated from Warren High School in 1978.

He worked in a steel-treating factory while attending Oakland University and graduated with a BA in English Literature. He continued his studies, working on a combined MBA/LAW Degree while managing the factory where he once swept floors and loaded furnaces.

He has spent considerable time in Northern Michigan on the Inland Waterway, a water route that runs from Crooked Lake through Burt Lake and Mullett Lake and finally out to Lake Huron, one of the Great Lakes, located along Michigan's eastern shore.

"The lakes and rivers of Northern Michigan are God's country," says Michael. "The greatest thrill is to watch the Bald Eagle gliding above the trees, fishing the shoreline and diving to catch his dinner from the lake."

Michael lives with his wife in Beverly Hills, Michigan.
