Overview

1880s North Texas. Fifteen plus years since the end of the Civil War. Having grown up following his father's footsteps as a lawman, a self-semi-retired sheriff has seen plenty of blood and deaths in his lifetime. However, the day's activities have become the hardest that the sheriff has ever faced as he has had to bury family members after discovering them dead following a return trip home.

Clues left behind let the sheriff know who's responsible. The sheriff vows to God that he's going to kill one of His creations as the sheriff sets out on a journey of vengeance that will become a night of retribution. The sheriff is joined by one of his closest friends, the preacher, as the pair sets out toward town in search of the killer.

However, not everything is what it seems as the ticking of the night's embrace finds both the sheriff and the preacher fighting against the very night itself as they search for a murderer. No matter the odds, the sheriff promises the preacher that his family's murderer will never see the morning sun rising ever again no matter what.

About the Author

J.P. Raley, when asked where home is, enjoys telling the story of being from everywhere. J.P.'s dad was in the United States Army when it was time to enter the world, so moving every few years became the norm in life. Born in Alabama, living in Germany at different times, and calling Texas home-base when the family was on break from moving, J.P. Raley has seen quite a bit of Europe as well as a little over half of the United States. Garland, Texas, was always the original marker for what would eventually be called home-base, but Germany would seem like an essential part of J.P. Raley's life. Graduating from Giessen American High School, J.P. Raley would subsequently go on to obtain a bachelor's degree and an MBA in later years as time went on. However, it was the years spent at different schools in Garland, Texas, that would see J.P. Raley remembering classmates as being a reminder of the simple times of being a child. While J.P. Raley briefly attended South Garland High School as the school in which J.P.'s parents graduated from, it would ultimately be Giessen that would help define J.P.'s dream of becoming a writer from the time of being a Griffin. As J.P. Raley would say with the personal quote created in 1992: "Creativity is the spark of my life and words the life of my soul."
