Oliver's Wish

Chapter One
Oliver Flamingo, handsome and tall, Lived on a stick in a garden by a wall. The flowers were pretty and Others were kind, But Oliver had a dream in his mind. It was his dream to be in the sky. And so it was, that Oliver wished
he could fly. He had a steady stare, and he never blinked an eye. But, what Oliver
could not do - was fly.
When wind blew into the garden, Oliver's noisy wings spun round and round. They made a terrible Clack itty sound. Clack itty clack, Clack itty clack, Clack itty clack. The Clack itty clack was annoying And the Others complained. Oliver did not care. "I think," He said as he stared at the sky, "This is the day I am going to fly." But, the wind blew away
And his wings stood still.
When there was no wind, Oliver stared over the wall.
He stared past Trees called palms. He stared past Sea grapes and sea oats To the sky beyond Where he could see ........
........the pelicans dive. And he could see the sea gulls soar and glide. "How wondrous it must be in the sky. Someday," Oliver said, "I am going to fly." Then, wishing to fly from where he stood, With the next gust of wind, He spun his wings to see if he could.
The Others, the ones that fly and the ones that crawl, And lived in the garden by the wall, laughed. "Foolish," they said. "Surely he knows he cannot fly," Buzzed a Bee to a butterfly. "His wishing must be a joke." "No joke. He does not know He is made of wood." A caterpillar said, Chewing as he spoke.
Oliver paid no attention to the Others, And every day, from morn to night, He wished his wish with all his might. And every day when the wind came by, He tried as hard as he could to fly. But every day was always the same, Oliver could not fly until... the Big Storm Came.
