About the Author

Charles Alexander Eastman (1858-1939) was a Native American writer, physician, and activist.  His Souix and Anglo-American roots allowed him to straddle both worlds in medicine and in working tirelessly for the betterment of all Native Americans.  For this he received the first Indian Achievement Award in 1933.
