The miniatures illustrating them depict towns and sacred places, churches and monasteries, caves, mountains and lakes, as well as events from the Holy Scriptures and ecclesiastical history and tradition. The proskynetaria are brilliant examples of folk art that form a basic source for Palestine during one period of its history.
