Oh No Carlinho!
On a sunny morning in Palm Village, the Bobcats—Carlinho, Billy, Lena, Pedro, Warren, Abbey, Maya, Brice, and Tyler—gathered at the field for their favorite game. The grass was green, the air was fresh, and their soccer balls gleamed in the morning sunlight. Laughter filled the air as they kicked the ball back and forth, dreaming of scoring the winning goals just like their soccer heroes.

At the edge of the soccer field were fragrant honeysuckle flowers, where their scary adventure began. Billy spotted it first: a giant, hairy spider hanging just above Carlinho's head. It was the biggest spider they had ever seen, with long, hairy legs that seemed to stretch forever, a big black, yellow, and brown body, and maybe 100 big eyes!

"Run!" Billy shouted, his voice trembling.

Without another word, the Bobcats turned and dashed towards a big tree at the North end of the field. Out of breath, the kids made excuses for why they needed to go home and ran as fast as their legs could carry them, their hearts pounding like drums. The green grassy field fell silent!

The kids didn't stop until they were safely inside their houses, wondering if they'd ever be brave enough to go near the honeysuckles again.

About the Author

Len is a girl's dad. After many nights of trying to get his daughter to sleep, he started reading bedtime stories to her, hoping she would get drowsy and fall asleep. It did not work! One night, he decided to tell a story about a young boy, his friends, and their many adventures together. It was an entirely made-up story. Guess what? His daughter fell asleep. The next day, she told her father she liked the story and asked for a new one every night! That was the beginning of the Carlinho stories and good night's sleep.
