Overview

As a toddler, Carson loses his parents to the waters of the Pacific Ocean off the Oregon coast. This turn of events brings him to live with his father's parents in one of the many coastal logging and fishing communities that dot the rugged shoreline.

While building furniture with his craftsman grandfather, he learns about a mystical blend of ingredients that create special rocking chairs. "The amounts of water and sand need to be just right or the coalescence between water, sand and cedar won't work," his grandfather implores him.

As Carson comes of age, he learns about love, loss, deception and redemption and that miracles can and really do happen. Life with his grandparents prepares him to deal with family dynamics and human failings and in particular learn that the universe is no respecter of persons.

About the Author

This is the author’s first book. He has lived a life of challenges, variety and adventure. His father and many others always said that he was a natural born storyteller and would make a tremendous writer.

Growing up in Bend, Oregon, he enjoyed skiing, backpacking the Cascade Mountains and the high deserts of central Oregon. He regularly fly fished the many lakes, rivers and streams that surrounded him while growing up.

After graduating from high school he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard which afforded him the opportunity to travel the world. His first duty station was Coast Guard Base Honolulu. In his journeys, he toured Europe extensively, lived in Hokkaido, Japan and New York City. After his enlistment he attended Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, Oregon, until his program was cancelled a year later. He worked as a high-line splicer for a local cable TV company. He returned to Bend to ply his cable skills but only found seasonal employment. He found a full-time career with Oregon State Parks and Recreation Division as a Park Ranger, landing in the Blue Mountains of eastern Oregon. Later, he attended Central Oregon Community College in Bend earning his associate degree, and then attended Eastern Oregon University in LaGrande to earn his bachelor’s degree.

He has two grown children and two grandchildren. He currently lives in Arizona with his wife.
