Description: This is a collection of essays on the risks obesity poses to pregnant women.
Purpose: The intent is to describe the risks of obesity in pregnancy and the various methods clinicians can use to address it. The authors do a decent job of achieving the goal.
Audience: The audience is limited to dietitians. The book does not provide enough easily accessible information for others. There is a diverse list of contributors, including scientists in the field.
Features: The book covers the obesity epidemic and then addresses specific issues such as infertility. Although this is a collection of essays, the physical appearance of the book is that of a pocket manual, which it is not. One notable chapter covers exercise, an underdiscussed topic when it comes to pregnancy. It is well written and a standout.
Assessment: This is a well-written collection of essays that may have been more useful as part of a larger book.
