Obese Obadiah Adores Oatmeal

Overview

Obadiah likes some strange foods…he likes whipped cream on broccoli or peanut butter and lettuce sandwiches. He even likes to drink soda after the fizz is gone. But his favorite is oatmeal. He eats it with mashed potatoes, chocolate sauce, ice cream or even sometimes with all three. Obadiah likes to eat oatmeal right from the box even before it is cooked. When he eats rat poison that he thinks is oatmeal, his mother calls 911. Obadiah decides to be careful what he eats from now on….but when he asks for peanut butter on eggs, his mother wonders if he has learned his lesson.
This is book nineteen of thirty-one books in the First Phonics series by Betty Ward Cain. It helps a student learn the long sound of an “O.” This program has been used in the classroom for many years with a lot of success in teaching kids to read.

About the Author

Betty Ward Cain is a published author, musician and retired teacher. She is listed in the Cambridge who’s who. Mrs. Cain taught kindergarten students for 30 years. She comes from a long line of ministers, musicians, teachers and song writers. Mrs. Cain grew up in a minister’s home. Her father (Rev. T. N. Ward) and grandfather (Rev. L. M. Justice) were Church of God ministers. She desires to pass on her Christian heritage and bring the values she learned during her childhood to children today. The author became a Christian when she was only 5 years old. (You can read about her experience in her Shy Sharon chapter book.) She has spent most of her life in some type of ministry as a Sunday School teacher, soloist, choir member, children’s choir director, vacation Bible school teacher, and has held most positions in her church.

Mrs. Cain began writing several years before she retired from teaching. After taking a class at Lee University with Dr. Cliff Schimmels, she began her career in writing. Dr. Schimmels was published many times in his lifetime. After turning in a writing assignment in his class, Dr. Schimmels told her she should share her gifts with others. She had never believed in her abilities until he gave her the encouragement she needed.

Mrs. Cain lives with her husband, Jay, in Cleveland, TN. They have one son, Jeremy, who has three children. The delight of Mrs. Cain’s life is her three grandchildren. Madelin is a beautiful Christian young woman who loves God. Madelin plays the guitar and sings in church. Sophie has a great zest for life. She is intelligent and observant and loves people. She plays the guitar as well. Sammy is highly intelligent and loving. He loves life and loves people. He is the clown of the family. He loves to make others laugh, especially his grandmother.
