Willa Sibert Cather (1873-1947) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning author best known for her novels of frontier life on the Great Plains. Cather grew up in Nebraska but lived in New York for most of her adult life and writing career. An intensely private person, Cather remained unmarried and her sexuality has become a point of contention among scholars. Her work received the Pulitzer Prize in 1923.
