A Bíblia nos diz que Deus criou o mundo e todas as coisas : o sol, a lua, os animais do mar, os animais terrestres... Quando tudo foi feito,  Deus viu que ficou bom. » ( Génesis 1 : 25).  Deus criou também « o homem à sua imagem; à imagem de Deus o criou, homem e mulher os criou » (Génesis 1 : 27).
Depois de criar todas as coisas, isto é, o homem, os animais, a terra, o mar... « e viu Deus tudo o que havia feito, e tudo havia ficado muito bom. » (Génesis 1 : 31). Se Deus viu algo e disse que era muito bom, isto significa que esta coisa era perfeita em todos os sentidos da palavra. O homem era perfeito no princício, sem defeito. Era tão perfeito que, ao olhar para ele, o coração de Deus ficou satisfeito, e talvez tenha dito: « Eis a minha perfeita e maravilhosa criatura ».
