Purpose: The authors' intent is to answer the call to transform nursing education by providing a framework for readers to study the discipline of nursing with the use of case studies, referred to as nursing situations. The two main premises are that caring is the central domain of nursing and that nursing knowledge is based in nursing situations. The authors successfully provide a creative process for students of nursing to explore the theoretical underpinnings and challenges of nursing situations.
Audience: The authors indicate this book is for nurse educators and students who desire to study both the art and science of nursing based on the core value of caring. Additionally, they suggest the book is useful for healthcare organization in-service educators who wish to incorporate the value of caring as an essential component of nursing care. While all could find this book of interest, educators are particularly likely to find it useful. The combined experience of the authors is in education, research, and clinical practice, which provides a suitable foundation for this publication.
Features: The book is divided into two parts, the first on foundational concepts and the second on nursing situation exemplars.
