About the Author

Robbert Broekstra was a practicing naturist for just 30 years. He started in Canada in 1967, and founded his first club, in 1969 in Gouda, Holland, where he lived until his death in November 26, 2007.
Robbert’s parents moved from Leiden, where he was born in 1938, to Canada when he was 14. After completing school, he worked for a suburban Toronto parks and recreation department in a job with a lot of outside work!
He met a Finnish girl named Mona, who was vacationing in Canada; and after a five-year courtship by mail, they were married, and he moved back to Holland — Canada being a couple of thousand miles too far away from Mona’s family.
He found a government job, as assistant to the secretary of Prince Claus, husband of Queen Beatrix. After he left the government he traveled, photographing and reporting on naturism from all over the world.
While still a civil servant, Robbert was increasingly active in naturism, and founded two more clubs, including Friends of Nature, which grew to 540 members in three provinces — there were about 1400 in all three clubs. He also founded and coordinated INIC, an International Naturist Information Center.
This brief life history, and this book, suggest some questions. Why be naked? To be with naked people? Why produce a book of pictures of naked people in a bewildering variety of settings and situations? Well, you’ll have to get the book for the answers.
Robbert believed in God and in the goodness and beauty of what He has created — the trees and flowers, sky and oceans, animals and people — and in the need to protect and preserve our natural treasures. His work in naturism is a celebration of this, and his fellow club members.
Robbert writes about Holland" "Sometimes we wonder if we live in the wrong country to go without clothes, but every now and then we get a good summer, so we remain hopeful."
